Ocean Vision, who last year provided a poignant victory at Deauville when supplying both his sire Coolmore Stud’s U S Navy Flag and his trainer Tim Donworth with their first respective Stakes successes, was able to add another Listed win yesterday when landing the Prix de Pontarme at Longchamp.
The three-year-old colt raced prominently in the 1400m contest, before coming under pressure with 300m to go and pushing through a gap to challenge the longtime leader Knock On (Zelzal) inside the final 100m.
He got to the front just in time to win by three quarters of a length from Cawdor (Invincible Spirit). Knock On just held on to take third, beaten a neck.
Owned by Jonathon Kirkland and Geraldine Ryan, Ocean Vision made a winning debut last year at Dundalk in April and followed up with a pair of solid efforts at Stakes level, finishing within a handful of lengths behind Blackbeard (No Nay Never) on both occasions. He then moved to France and took his first Stakes victory on his debut for Donworth, before finishing third in the Gr.2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte.
He took a trip to Qatar in February and placed a length third in the Al Rayyan Mile, before returning to France to win at Chantilly over 1600m.
Bred by Mighty Universe Ltd, he is the third winner out of the Listed-placed Balaagha (Mr Greeley), who is a half-sister to the Gr.3 winner Letgomyecho (Menifee; dam of the Gr.1-winning pair Echo Zulu and Echo Town, along with the Gr.3 winner J Boys Echo).
Two Year Old colt Flag Of St George provided his sire U S Navy Flag with another winner overnight at Newmarket. Flag Of St George tracked the leaders and made smooth progress to hit the front two furlongs out before winning comfortably at his second start.
