All Options Open For Navy King

Symon Wilde is taking an open mind into the spring with his emerging stayer Navy King (U S Navy Flag) and will let his performances dictate what level of races he contests.

Wilde said Navy King has staying potential and will be entered for all of the major races, including the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

Two starts ago at Flemington, Navy King impressively won the Sir Henry Bolte Handicap, which was the corresponding event won by First Immortal last year before he mixed it with the top level and finished second in The Bart Cummings.

After Navy King won at Flemington on May 18, Wilde took him to Brisbane where he finished 10th in the Queensland Derby, having led by 12 lengths at the 1000m.

Wilde said he did not expect to see those tactics and thought he went too hard.

"He was high in the betting in the Queensland Derby, but things didn't work out," Wilde said.

Wilde decided to spell the rising four-year-old in Queensland and he will do also his pre-training there shortly before he heads back to Warrnambool.

"It's always hard coming out of three-year-old grade but I'm hoping he can take the next step as I think he's a really promising stayer," he said.

"We'll get him in and see where he lands. I'm hoping he will take the next step."
