Co-trainer Trent Busuttin knows his mare Sierra Sue (Darci Brahma-Centree, by Centaine) will need to improve for Saturday's Gr1 Futurity Stakes, according to punters.com.au. "She had every chance in the Orr and there were some proper weight-for-age horses in front of her," said Busuttin.
"She had last year's Doncaster winner and Tofane, who has won four Group 1s. She's in against the big horses now. It's just one race at a time but there's certainly improvement in her from her first-up to second-up run."
Sierra Sue finished fourth in the Gr1 CF Orr Stakes over 1400m last start, which was her first start since the spring. All up, the 5YO mare has won eight of her 21 starts and over $1.1million. She was passed in as a yearling, then sold for NZ$2,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run sale as a 2YO, before being on-sold privately to Australian interests.
Sierra Sue is currently an $11 chance in the Futurity, while the CF Orr winner Tofane (Ocean Park-Baggy Green, by Galileo) is $3.50 equal favourite with I'm Thunderstruck (Shocking-Primadonna Girl, by Edenwold).
